Celebrating the essence of simple and minimal design using eco-friendly materials, young entrepreneurs Aishwarya Gupta – Founder, House of Rugs, and Pernia Qureshi – Founder, Gur Organics, unfurl their sustainable range of rugs titled ‘Kairos’
House of Rugs, the new e-commerce platform founded by Aishwarya Gupta, has collaborated with Gur Organics of Pernia Qureshi, one of India’s leading style icons and fashion entrepreneurs for this eco-friendly project.
‘Kairos’ aims at promoting sustainable luxury as well as women’s education as part of Aishwarya’s support cause. Two of the dhurries from the collection are made of PET yarn derived from recycled plastic, while three rugs are in a combination of wool and jasmine silk, and one in wool and viscose. Parts of the sale proceeds are towards a women’s college Aishwarya’s family is building in Badhohi.
A combination of Japandi and Art Deco, the trendy collection gives a sophisticated edge of bold and pastel shades full of textures offering a cozy and relaxed vibe. This new look takes the modern flair of Japandi and blends it with the timeless elegance of Art Deco aesthetic. Where Japandi has a tendency to be neutral, the rich colour palette of Deco gives the room more warmth.
Pernia, who designed the collection, shares, “I was inspired by Japanese minimalism. To form it as art, I chose Japandi – the combination of Scandinavian functionality and Japanese rustic minimalism to create a feeling of art, nature and simplicity. The fusion creates the perfect blend of function and form, focusing on clean lines, bright spaces and light colours. Calming, tranquil, and peaceful palettes are typically chosen, and when brighter colours are incorporated, they are done so meaningfully and subtly.”
“While we worked from remote on the project, it was a perfectly synchronized effort,” says Aishwarya, who was in complete charge of the production process.
