Abhijita Gupta is all of eight years old, and already has several feathers in her cap. The published author is a holder of five national and international records. Precocious and passionate, this writing prodigy is at the cusp of an illustrious career. This Children’s Day, her story is sure to inspire many more of her young peers to dream big and express themselves through the written word.
Abhijita is the author of three published books, which has led to her being recognised by the International Book of Records and bagging the title of the world’s youngest writer. The UK’s World Book of Records has acknowledged her as the youngest author to write a non-fiction book on the pandemic, titled ‘We Will Surely Sustain’. For her achievements as a writer, she has been felicitated by the Asia Book of Records as ‘Grandmaster for Writing’.
She participated in “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, a celebration of 75 years of India’s independence, where she was honoured for her work. The Ministry of Culture also invited Abhijita to feature in the song “Mauka Hai” by Manoj Muntashir. The young achiever has hosted Mindwars State Battle Season 2 and represented U.P. state as a guest with Shruti Ulfat. Her accomplishments have proven the benefits of encouraging children’s passions and inclinations from a young age.
Now a third-grade student, she started writing stories at the tender age of five. She is the grandchild of poet duo Rashtrakavi- Shri Maithalisharan Gupt and Santkavi Shri Siyaramsharan Gupt. The author aspires to take forward her grandparents’ grand creative legacy. Each of her three remarkable books is an anthology of poems and short stories. In 2020, at the age of seven, she became the world’s youngest published author upon the release of her first book ‘Happiness All Around’.
Her second book, ‘To Begin With…The Little Things’, is a charming repository of her learnings over the past few years. Her latest release, ‘We Will Surely Sustain’, is an optimistic account of the pandemic from a child’s perspective – highlighting moral lessons that can help children sustain the pandemic. The book, published by Invincible Publishers, was launched on 9th October by Dr. Charu Wali Khanna, Member of the National Commission for Women, at Oxford Bookstore.
Abhijita’s writing is imaginative and vivid, and entirely rooted in her experiences – which helps to retain her voice as a young author. When not writing, she dedicates her time towards sketching, painting, and browsing local bookstores for interesting reads – Ruskin Bond being one of her favourites. During the pandemic, she spent the majority of her time enhancing her writing skills. More than 9,700 copies of her first two books have been sold cumulatively across platforms. Abhijita and her mother are excited to know how her new book will be received by readers across the age spectrum.
