The Most Useful Packing Hacks to Travel Smart

By Amrit Kaur

We all look forward to our travels, but packing for the trip can often feel like a daunting task. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a newbie, figuring out what to pack and how to get everything into your luggage can be a challenge. Luckily, there are a number of tips to help you travel smart and make packing a breeze. From packing aids to carry-on luggage, these tricks can save you time and space and ensure you have everything you need for your trip. In this article, we’ll share six of the best packing tips to help you pack smarter and travel more comfortably. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a month-long adventure, these tips will ensure you have everything you need to enjoy your travels to the fullest.

1. Use packing cubes

Once you invest in a few packing cubes, you’ll wonder how you ever travelled without them. Packing cubes have a very real and useful purpose—to categorize the goods in your suitcase by clothing type, color, and a variety of other categories. This will save you the daily chore of digging through mountains of wrinkled clothing.

2. Utilize sunglass case & shoes space

Use your empty eyewear cases as storage containers for cables, headphones, and small chargers. Also, keep all similar items in one place so they are more easily accessible and not so easily misplaced or damaged in a purse or backpack. Although trainers and dressy shoes are hard to pack, they are often needed for business or hiking trips. You can tuck socks or trousers into your shoes to fill the empty space. This will save you a little space and your shoes will keep their shape even in a crowded suitcase.

3. Separate Dirty Laundry

During your journey, keep your dirty laundry separate to prevent your dirty garments from mixing with the clean ones. Remember to carry a compact, reusable bag or lightweight canvas bag for your used clothes. Most hotels also provide laundry bags that you can use for this purpose.

4. Make a sarong your new BFF

Sarongs are versatile and a must-have for travellers and backpackers, regardless of gender. A sarong can be used as a blanket during a cold flight or bus ride, a beach cover-up, a mat to lie down on at the airport during a layover, a towel, or a scarf to cover your shoulders when visiting a sacred site. You’ll find a use for it on any trip.

5. Purchase TSA-Approved Bottles

To avoid having to throw away your preferred cosmetics or lotions because they were just a hair over the 3.4-ounce limit, you should purchase inexpensive TSA-approved travel bottles. Many of these are readily available in transparent cases to make clearing security easier.

You’ll be one step closer to a stress-free take-off if you label the contents on each one before you leave for the airport.

6. Make room for souvenirs

Where are you going to put all the souvenirs you acquire while travelling if you pack your bag to the brim before you even leave? There are two ways to make room. First, you can simply leave extra space in your suitcase. If the item you want to take home is fragile, use bubble wrap to fill the empty space. Alternatively, you can bring some worn out clothes that you’re happy to leave behind. Wear the clothes during the trip and donate them before you leave your destination.
