It’s obvious that a Corvette is different from a Lamborghini and from a McLaren P1. In the automotive world, one aspect that serves the purpose is – how fast it is.

It is completely subjective as to how one characterizes these cars. Predominately it is speed, the position of the engine, power, price, the technology and the drivetrain that matters. But we will always find exceptions like the Aston Martin GT8, a sports car, priced like a supercar with extremely low production volume.

SUPERCARS

A supercar is the top of the range in performance cars, with the most supreme technology, design, and performance. Back in 1920, the term supercar was first used in The Times newspaper to describe the 6.7 liters, Bentley Ensign, for their readers to know it was a top of the range specification automotive car.

As automakers increased their competitiveness, more and more companies followed Ford’s footsteps by releasing their own version of their extreme machines. Each production unit delivered high speed and power. Million-dollar price tags, unbeatable performance, low weight with impeccable lap times – these are supercars. They are a bit difficult to handle as compared to sports cars as they have more than 500 horsepower.

They are the least practicable and more performance-oriented. Nowadays, supercars are being used as daily vehicles like the Porsche 911 Turbo and McLaren 720S. Most supercars are mid-engine giving a 50-50 weight distribution. Most supercars are rear-wheel drive but some can also offer all-wheel drive power distribution with either a manual or a DSG transmission.

HYPERCARS

Then there are hypercars, taking everything to the next level. Absolutely everything about hypercars is Outrageous. The level of performance, speed, the technology can shock anyone who looks at them. These cars are able to reach speeds that are unthinkable of, their performance unmatched. The majority of the hypercars are priced over a million dollars. Recently Lotus released their new electric hypercar, Lotus Evija with 130 going into production.
1963 Lamborghini Miura was the world’s first hypercar which was also known as P400 accelerating to 60mph in under 6 seconds with a top speed of 180mph. These cars are meant to break all records of the best sports cars in the world.
