As the technology in the smartphone world seeks new ways to accommodate bigger and better screens, the foldable smartphone seems to be the only solution.
Samsung Galaxy Fold
Officially announced in February 2019 after years of speculation, the Samsung Galaxy Fold made its debut along with Galaxy S10 but with a few issues.
The smartphone features an Exynos chip with 12GB RAM and 512gb of storage (therefore, no microsd Card required). The smartphone also features six cameras ensuring all angles are covered with three-app multi-tasking when opened on the larger display.
Motorola Razr
The 15-year-old, the most iconic phone to come out from Lenovo owned Motorola now goes foldable mode, swapping from numerical keyboard to a flexible OLED screen display that folds into a perfect square when the phone is shut, with a second Quick View display at the front.
Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, coupled with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a 2,510mAh battery. The foldable smartphone has a 16-megapixel camera that flips to be a selfie and main camera and there is a 5-megapixel internal camera for face unlock and attentive display features.
Huawei Mate X
Unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2019, Huawei’s new foldable smartphone, the Mate X has an exterior fold. Launched as a 6.6-inch main screen and extended 6.38-inch screen on the rear. When unfolded, the phone becomes an 8-inch tablet. The smartphone is powered by an 8GB RAM and a 4,500 mAh battery, the phone has a triple camera set up of 40MP, 16MP, and 8MP.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung’s second attempt on making foldable phones after Galaxy Fold is the Z Flip. The Z Flip uses a very different form factor than the Fold. Announced in February 2020, the foldable smartphone when completely unfolded has a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with 8GB RAM with 256GB memory and a 3,300mAh battery. Microsoft Surface Duo
Microsoft Surface Duo is another device that comes with twin screens. This one doesn’t have a foldable display but brings together two different screens on either side of a patented and slim hinge that rotates 360-degrees. The Surface Duo is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and features two 5.6-inches screen. This upcoming foldable device runs on a custom Android built.
