THE DON BOSCO MUSEUM

The museum is not just a treasure, but also a great historical site of the people. The museum was built in a hexagonal shape with seven sides. Each of the seven sides represents each of the states in India; hence, the museum was a great way to preserve the Indian culture. The 17 galleries display an array of beautiful artifacts and paintings. If you love food, you can enjoy the local cuisine at the local joint. Also, the museum is popular for its research facilities consisting of a modern library.

ALL SAINTS CATHEDRAL

The All Saints Cathedral is one of the oldest churches in India built by the British colonialist. The architecture of the building is majestic, as one would say, and portrays the colonial era in the region. It has a rich historical background and is popular with believers. During the 1939 earthquake that destroyed the entire region, the Cathedral remained untouched. Believers believe that the two remaining monuments of the Holy Bible and Baptismal Font depict the miracles of God.

UMIAM LAKE

The lake is a beautiful scenic place in the outskirts of the city. It has an estimated length of 15 kilometres and a 10 square meters radius. The source of the lake is River Miam which is a poplar historical joint. There are numerous activities to do in the lake, including fishing kayaking, scooting and skiing. The Lake has an island within it called Lumpongdeng Island. Indigenous trees creating a soothing breeze surrounds the island. The breeze, combined with the chirping of birds creates an amazing romantic atmosphere for any nature lover.

ELEPHANT FALLS

Located 12kms away from the city, the Elephant Falls is the most visited falls in the region. But don’t let that scare you off because the serenity and landscape of this region is worth it all. The waters are as clear as milk, it looks so white! If you’re looking out for some time out with nature or just by yourself, you surely shouldn’t miss out on visiting the Elephant Falls.

INDIA ORCHIDARIUM AND BOTANICAL GARDEN

So it’s true, Shillong is a paradise for those who love nature. Another hot spot to satiate your nature love is the India Orchidarium and Botanical Garden lying right outside the main city. The garden’s home to some of the rarest orchids and plants you’d love to explore and learn about. A rare avifuana species also houses here.
