Apical Reform Studio Wins Big at the Luxury Innovation Award 2021

Apical Reform Studio, an evolving design practice located in India, has won the prestigious Swiss award ‘Luxury Innovation Award 2021’ in the Art and Culture category for their mesmerizing kinetic sculpture – Stingray.

Organized by Luxury Venture Group, the Luxury Innovation Award, launched in 2020, is the world’s first global competition for emerging luxury brands and startups developing innovative solutions for the luxury industry. The competition is born out of the observation of spotting and highlighting innovative initiatives developed by emerging luxury companies around the world that can contribute to the future of luxury.

Six winners of the Luxury Innovation Awards 2021 edition were announced from 71 entries from over 20 countries at the Luxury Innovation Summit held at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, Geneva, selected by an international jury in a rigorous three-month process. The jury included the CEOs of Bulgari, Porsche Schweiz AG and many other industry giants.

A collaborative studio established in 2011 by Amrish Patel and Darshan Soni, Apical Reform Studio emerged at the top in the Art & Culture category with its masterpiece “Stingray”.

The Stingray kinetic art is an abstract manifestation of the movement of the majestic stingray fish, a translation of the unforgettable experience the team had of witnessing it during the visit of an aquarium. The artwork enhances the learned motion into a silent and calming kinetic art that engages the onlooker. It is a complex synergy between art, design, engineering, and technology.

As part of a new vanguard of emerging Indian designers, the studio is at the intersection of art and innovation, combining design with technology and manufacture.
