Eid 2018 is on 15th June, Friday. Here is a list of 5 desserts you can make to break your fast with.

Eid al-Fitr translates from Arabic to “festival of breaking the fast” This year it is being celebrated on the 15th of June. This holiday is celebrated on the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn to sunset fasting during the month of Ramadan.

Here are 5 desserts that you can make to end your fasts on a good note.

Kanafeh Naame

Kanafeh is a cheese pastry soaked in sweet sugar-based syrup. It consists of two layers of the shredded phyllo with a cheesy cream filling. It is traditionally served warm with a drizzle of simple syrup. Kanafeh is a specialty especially in Lebanon, Turkey, the Palestinian territories, Syria and northern Egypt. “Kanafeh Naame ”. Naame means fine. Here the phyllo dough is shredded really fine, that’s why the name.

 

 

Baklava

Crunchy and delicious, Baklava is a Turkish dessert which is made with layers of filo pastry covered with butter and layers of chopped pistachios and nuts. These pastries are then soaked in rose flavored sugar syrup, which gives the pastry its signature fragrant essence.

 

 

 

Shahi Tukda

Made by frying small pieces of bread, which are then dipped in condensed milk, and are topped with dry fruits and infused with a hint of cardamom, shahi tukda may safely be referred as one of Awadh’s best contribution to Indian cuisine. Down south in regions like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, it is referred to as double ka meethaBoth the dishes resemble each other in taste and presentation. There aren’t any striking differences between the two.

 

 

Malva Pudding

Malva pudding is a sweet pudding that has originated from South Africa. It is filled with apricot jam and has a spongy caramelized texture. A cream sauce is then poured over it while it is hot, and it is usually paired up hot with custard and/or ice-cream. The pudding gained popularity on the West Coast of the US after Oprah Winfrey’s personal chef, Art Smith, served it for Christmas dinner in 2006 to the pupils of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.

 

 

 

Gil-e-Firdaus
