For the ninth edition of the distinguished Only Watch Auction, luxury Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer presented The Only Watch Carbon Monaco – a one-of-its-kind timepiece that evokes the legendary TAG Heuer Monaco ‘Dark Lord’ with a high-end, hand-finished version of the brand’s inimitable square-cased automatic chronograph that will never be recreated. The unique watch was sold for CHF 290,000 at the biennial charity watch auction in Geneva on 6th November 2021.

Frédéric Arnault, TAG Heuer Chief Executive Officer, said, “Only Watch has become one of the highlights of the watchmaking calendar, and we are so glad to be taking part again and to help raise vital funds for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It’s also our great pleasure to put forward for auction the TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco, one of the most spectacular, imaginative wristwatches we have ever created.”

The carbon-cased masterpiece combines more than 50 years of TAG Heuer’s heritage with contemporary savoir faire and innovation. A perfect amalgamation of a celebrated past and the brand’s modern design language, the wristwatch is a result of several months of intensive development with inputs from TAG Heuer’s talented arsenal of designers, engineers and partners. Appreciating the efforts of his team, Mr. Arnault said, “My profound congratulations to the team for producing a watch that pushes TAG Heuer watchmaking beyond the edge.”

Since 2005, the Only Watch event, held under the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, has invited the world’s finest watch companies to donate superlative one-of-a-kind watches. 99% of the proceeds from the auction are directed towards funding research projects on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. To date, 70 million euros have been raised in support of the cause. “We wanted to support this magnificent initiative with a unique, memorable watch that celebrated a legend from our past, but that also showcased our passion for fine watchmaking, innovation, aesthetics and avant-garde design,” continued Mr Arnault. “The TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco is that watch.”
