Luxury Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has launched a new special edition timepiece in collaboration with The Senna Brand – to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of Ayrton Senna becoming the youngest Formula One driver to win three world championships, and the path-breaking achievements that followed his historic win. The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition derives inspiration from the Brazilian driver’s iconic colours – yellow and black – to create a sleek and modern timepiece that evokes his absolute domination over motor racing’s supreme discipline.
On 3rd November 1991, Senna took the chequered flag at the Australian Grand Prix and claimed his sixth victory of the season. He bagged the title of World Champion in 1988,1989 and 1991 – making F1 history and elevating himself to a mythical status in the sport. With this limited edition watch, TAG Heuer renews its commitment to motor racing and pays a stylish tribute to an eternal legend.
The latest addition to TAG Heuer’s Formula 1 Collection, this watch features an embossed black leather bracelet which references the S/EL that Senna used to wear on his own TAG Heuer. The iconic bracelet, the first to be created by the brand, has a distinctive S-shaped design. This iteration dynamises the leather with yellow stitching and has a black steel clasp with double safety system push buttons.
The ultra-resistant black ceramic bezel is crowned with the famous double S (the icon’s universally recognisable brand) alongside the Senna name, and is engraved with the number 400 – a subtle reference to the 400 km/h speed that has never been achieved in Formula 1. The indexes and hour hands have optimum legibility in all situations, powered by a quartz movement.
The double S logo is replicated on the grey anthracite dial which houses the classic hour, minute and second indicators at six, nine and three o’clock. It is also subtly decorated with a TAG Heuer Formula 1 reminder. Finally, an image of Senna’s iconic helmet is engraved on the caseback, under the words ‘Sienna Special Edition’. The watch is water-resistant to 200 metres (20 bar).
