1. How has your journey been with DEWAR’S? What is it that you love about the brand?
DEWAR’S is a brand that I have always had great regard for, even before I officially became part of the family. Its rich history, captivating heritage, and the intriguing stories that have shaped the brand have always fascinated me. But above all, it’s the quality of the product that truly sets it apart. In February 2020, I had the privilege of joining Bacardi as the DEWAR’S brand ambassador. The onset of the pandemic made for an unusual start, but the journey since then has been nothing short of remarkable. I’ve had the opportunity to travel to over 10 states and 15 cities, sharing the DEWAR’S story with over 6,000 bartenders and service staff and connecting with at least 20,000 consumers!
Master Blender Stephanie Macleod, the winner of the World’s Best Master Blender award six times in a row, and her team have not only upheld the DEWAR’S legacy but have also introduced remarkable innovations over the past five years, with the promise of many more exciting developments to come. This commitment to excellence and innovation is what makes me love DEWAR’S even more every day and inspires me to do more.
2. What are the current trends in the world of cocktails that you are excited about?
Currently there is a ‘return to roots’ trend that’s taking shape, where we are witnessing a growing appreciation for classic cocktails and a renewed interest in simple yet innovative twists on these timeless recipes. Bartenders are increasingly looking to their immediate surroundings for inspiration, sourcing hyperlocal ingredients. This not only supports local communities and economies but also results in drinks that are unique, with flavours and aromas that tell a story of the place they come from. In a way, this trend is a celebration of simplicity, locality, and tradition, but with a fresh and creative approach.
3. Which is your go-to drink that you swear by?
I like to keep it simple. My go-tos are either a DEWAR’S 12-Year Old Highball Singer (pronounced “singe-er”), which is a refreshing mix of equal parts soda and ginger ale, perfect for a laid-back sip or the DEWAR’S 15-Year Old with fresh coconut water, served on ice and garnished with fresh mint.
4. Tell us about the highball challenge. And your favourite part about it?
The DEWAR’s Highball Challenge, which runs all over India & Southeast Asia, invites bartenders from around the world to create their own unique version of the classic Highball cocktail using DEWAR’s, the World’s Most Awarded Blended Scotch. The challenge not only tests the creativity and skill of the participants but also celebrates the versatility of DEWAR’s whisky and the classic Highball cocktail. Bartenders who wish to participate have to register and create a signature highball with DEWAR’S whisky.
The most thrilling part of the HBC is the grand finale, aptly named the ‘Battle of the Highballs’. Here, the top 40 entries, selected through secret shoppers and other criteria, are divided into four regional groups (N, S, E, W) with 10 entries each. Over the course of a two-day event, the top 12 bartenders are given the chance to create a new Highball and present it to both consumers and industry professionals. The attendees of the event then cast their votes for their favourite Highball, building up anticipation for the much-awaited announcement of the winners. All in all, HBC is an exhilarating experience, filled with creativity, competition, and camaraderie.
5. What’s next for you?
My commitment to championing DEWAR’s whisky and DEWAR’s Highballs remains steadfast. I look forward to continuing to promote this exceptional brand to trade professionals and consumers across India. And while I can’t reveal specifics just yet, rest assured that we have a few exciting surprises in store! I will always be a part of the Food & Beverage hospitality industry. It’s a vibrant, dynamic field that I deeply love, and I can’t envision myself stepping away from it. The thrill of sharing quality beverages with others and the joy of being part of this global community are simply incomparable.
