Ritu Kumar, the doyenne of Indian textiles, through her eponymous label has joined creative forces with Ashiesh Shah, one of India’s most renowned interior designers. The result is three minimalist yet luxurious limited-edition home and tableware collections inspired by the rich history, vivid textures and local heritage of three iconic Indian cities – Amer, Jaisalmer, and Cochin. Each piece celebrates India’s intricate crafts and diverse cultures.
A seamless blend of their contemporary yet traditional design sensibilities, this exclusive home decor range captures the timeless charm and storied history of these cities. The designers worked in tandem with local craftspeople to give the collections a distinct and authentic character. This intimate detail forms the essence of the collections and infuses them with a palpable warmth and radiant energy.
The seamless collaboration infuses the distinctive textures and tones of three diverse landscapes into a versatile range of bed linen, wallpapers, tableware and home decor. While drawing from tradition, the collections retain a modern and minimalist design language. The simplistic colours and patterns are complemented by fabrics that are indicative of the cities’ unique textures and artisanal prowess.
Discussing the confluence of two design powerhouses, Mr. Amrish Kumar, Director and Creative Director Ritu Kumar said, “We’re thrilled to announce our first collaboration for Ritu Kumar Home with the iconic architect and interior designer, Ashiesh Shah, marking the beginning of a very exciting year ahead for the brand. Through this range, we’ve explored the contemporizing of craftsmanship and offered a modern take of the region’s cultural heritage. We hope to continuously recognize the pulse of the consumer and offer the finest and choicest collections.”
Each city that has inspired the collection is represented through its unique vernacular and indigenous culture. ‘Cochin’ highlights the calming tones of green and gold – which symbolise Kochi’s lush greenery and scenic beauty. ‘Jaiasalmer’ is a creative expression of the unending dunes of the desert, rendered in earthy tones of beige, brown and maroon. ‘Amer’ showcases the architectural flair and royal heritage of the region through luxurious fabrics and opulent jewel tones.
Ashiesh Shah, Principal and Founder, Atelier Ashiesh Shah, shared the process of creating a truly marvellous home and lifestyle range with one of India’s most iconic luxury fashion brands, “After two years of intense research and brainstorming, we are excited to launch our very first collaboration with Ritu Kumar Home. We view this convergence as a precedent to many more multidisciplinary collaborations infusing our thought process at Atelier Ashiesh Shah for a seamlessly synchronised pairing. Drawing inspiration from traditional Indian fashion, the collections are truly a celebration of the rich cultural and architectural diversity presented with a contemporary flair serving as a platform for textile and design to blend into one another.”
The collections are now available at Ritu Kumar’s online boutique store https://www.ritukumar.com/in/home_living and in select Ritu Kumar stores pan-India.
