Must-Try Tools and Techniques for Digital Nomads

By Kratika Agarwal

The Covid-19 pandemic has left behind a trend of freelancing or working remotely while travelling. It’s not surprising to find people working from a cafe or a co-working space.

Digital nomads are rising to the occasion and ticking places off their bucket lists. If you wish to be or are a digital nomad, here are a few tools and techniques that will help simplify your life.

1. Have your emergency WiFi handy: When working on-the-go, you can’t always rely on the free internet in cafes and hotels. Be prepared with routers and hotspot services such as Skyroam, Keezel, Velop, Inseego, etc. Remember to choose them wisely based on their battery life, international usage, and the network.

2. Try out cable organisers: We can imagine the frustration you have to go through when searching for that one cable for a particular device. With all the cables getting tangled in your backpack, a cable organiser can be an efficient choice.

3. Invest in noise-cancelling headphones: A good-quality headset is non-negotiable when working from crowded places. Consider products with good mics and noise cancellation features.

4. Tweak your reading habit: It’s not practical to buy physical books when you’re living out of your suitcase. There’s no need to put your reading habit on hold—instead, you should give eBooks and audiobooks a chance.

5. Buy a multi-pin adaptor: This is an absolute must for every digital nomad. Many countries have different electrical systems. A multi-pin adaptor will help you navigate this irksome issue by keeping all your devices charged and saving you space.

6. Try a VPN service: A virtual private network or VPN can help you create a secure network wherever you go. Additionally, many countries censor various sites that you may need for work and so, it can be super useful to use a VPN. Freelancers swear by services such as Express VPN, Nord VPN, etc.

7. Use an online translator: Digital nomads often stay at a place for a considerable period of time. And in order to survive in a new country or destination, communication is key. Break the culture and language barriers with online translators like Google Translate, iTranslate, TripLingo etc.
