Established in 2016, Masque in Mumbai dons amongst Asia’s Top 50 Restaurants – receiving the prestigious Miele One to Watch award.
A prestige to be honored with, the Miele One to Watch Award is conferred to those restaurants which are included outside of the list but as a rising star of the region. Established in Mumbai in 2016, Masque has been titled with the same this year.
“Masque indicates a new chapter for India’s eating scene. The ingredient-focused menu peaks the diversity and fineness of India’s native products while the creative presentation, fresh blends and far-reaching style to culinary customs point to Chef Sadhu’s progressive vision”, says William Drew, Director of Content at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Masque sets apart itself as the first farm-to-table fine dine restaurant to acquaint the tasting menu-only model to India.
Prateek Sadhu, Executive Chef and Co-owner Masque, Mumbai, shares, “My background was not particularly urban! I grew up around farmland in Jammu, especially my aunt’s, where we’d spend weekends harvesting her veggies and then cooking them for lunch. The idea of local food to me is what’s growing around you in any particular season. I wouldn’t limit it to indigenous ingredients only, and I don’t think the two words are necessarily interchangeable. I’d consider potatoes and chilies grown here local, but neither are native to India.”
“Local is an evolving, ongoing process”, sums up Aditi Dugar, Director and Co-owner Masque.
The Miele One to Watch Award will be celebrated as part of eighth annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. Due to ongoing health restrictions, the virtual awards ceremony will be broadcasted live on 24th March, Thursday, 1:30 pm, on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Facebook and YouTube simultaneously.
