After decommissioning its Airbus A340-600 D-AIHO earlier this year, Lufthansa in collaboration with Miles & More and Lufthansa Technik, has upcycled parts of the Airbus to bring to life their very own home décor and accessories collection under Lufthansa Upcycling Collection.
The German airline, Lufthansa brings ‘Lufthansa Upcycling Collection’ which includes a range of travel accessories and limited edition furniture. All the products in this range are made from a decommissioned Lufthansa Airbus that served the airline for more than 10 years. The aircraft was professionally dismantled in Teruel, Spain within ten weeks after being in service for more than ten years.
Business bag or messenger backpack were created from headrest covers, business class blankets and safety cards and high-quality key rings were made from aluminum cladding of the machine. Unusual pieces of furniture were also manufactured from large elements of the aircraft fuselage or the window fronts. Some products also vie to make it to a connoisseur’s collection as you can spot the yellow crane on the products that has been used by the airline for decades.
“The special thing about the Lufthansa Upcycling Collection is that something of the aircraft’s spirit can be preserved. There are so many possibilities to give discarded materials a second life in a different way.” said Sebastian Riedle, spokesperson and managing director of Miles & More GmbH.
The idea behind this collection is becoming more environmentally aware. There are exclusive lifestyle and design products made from sustainably recycled aircraft materials.
