Lenovo – the Fortune Global 500 company with a US$60 billion revenue, which develops and delivers ground-breaking, smarter technologies to customers in 180 markets across the world – has been recognized as one of the world’s 100 most sustainable companies, for the third consecutive year, by Corporate Knights – a media publication and research organisation that advocates for clean capitalism.
The annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) rankings released by Corporate Knights examined 7,000 global businesses with revenues exceeding US$1 billion. Companies were ranked based on 23 key performance indicators that evaluated resource management, employee management, financial management, clean revenue, clean investment, and supplier performance.
“Being part of the Global 100 ranking once again means a great deal to Lenovo. We understand that as a global technology leader, we have an important role to play in creating innovative technologies that benefit the health of our communities and environment,” said Mary Jacques, Director of Global Environmental Affairs and Sustainability, Lenovo.
The recognition is an acknowledgment of Lenovo’s sustainability initiatives – including setting ambitious goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 – and introducing environmentally conscious products and packaging. These efforts are aimed towards building a smarter, brighter future for the planet and consumers at large.
As Pratima Harite, Head of Philanthropy & CSR Lenovo Asia Pacific, explains, “It’s not just about running a sustainable company and contributing to society – it’s about helping the customers meet their own sustainability goals. Lenovo customers can buy devices that make direct use of post-consumer recycled materials; they can choose to offset the CO2 emissions of their devices at the point of purchase; they can turn to Lenovo to manage the end-of-life process for their tech equipment, and they can even rely on Lenovo to help them design more energy-efficient data centers. These initiatives help us meet ambitious commitments to address societal expectations, and to maintain a high standard of governance wherever we operate.”
Lenovo has eliminated 3,240 metric tonnes of packaging consumption by weight since 2008. The brand’s continued innovations embed sustainable features and materials into its products and packaging. Lenovo’s masterfully designed devices and infrastructure, as well as its sophisticated technological solutions, services and software add ease and comfort to the lives of millions of consumers everyday. This recent recognition is yet another step forward in Lenovo’s vision of creating an inclusive, reliable, and sustainable digital society for all.
