Laal Paar: Celebrating the Age of Feminine Awakening with Art

Leading Jaipur’s artistic team at Wolf, Ritu, and Surya Singh have come together with a brand new art show of recycled and upcycled waste, titled “Laal Paar”- curated by Srila Chatterjee of Baro Market.

Threadbare but bonded, Ritu and Surya Singh have poured their hearts into weaving stories and experiences into this beautiful collective. Introducing their latest art collection inspired by ‘Laal Paar’ – a simple handwoven cotton saree in Bengal, the collection will be honoring feminine voices over the generations.

With their entire art practice based on working with scrap, waste, and discards, Wolf creates whole public shows that are made of intricate and large installations, all coming together to tell a story based on the social issues they want to highlight. Their work is a true amalgamation of art and conscience, with both Surya and Ritu enlivening elements of each show that can be interactive and coveted by collectors. “Laal Paar” takes ahead this very belief in its rawest most feminine form.

A celebration of the feminal universe, it is the retelling of ancient stories, the historical silencing, and erasure of women. Each artwork at the show comprises elements such as snakes, flowers, spirals,s, and the moon, and speaks about the magical pelvic space: which not only clears energies every month but also brings with it a new life. Each artwork is inspired by ancient history, Sanskrit relics, and made of scrap, waste, and discards such as buttons, hairpins, ghungroos, and much more.

Artworks like The Desi Gulab – a sacred geometry representing creation; Mannat – she is the wish-granting, merciful, protecting Goddess who has no written history; Miss Tree – speaking of regeneration and renewal, and Yaara – highlighting the importance of sisterhood, and many more such artworks circling around a genderless future, and many more shall be omnipresent and highlight their individual stories.

Opening on the 22nd of October at Method, Kalaghoda, Mumbai, the creative collaboration will be a new step into tapping each of ours’ higher power.
