IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders has a history of showing up for a cause. The team has been making the city proud since 2008, the year it was founded. Apart from KKR’s performance on the field, the team has also been associated with charitable events, through which it shows its responsibility towards the city and its people.
Knight Golf’s incredible comeback
The 6th edition of Knight Golf, Meer Foundation and KKR’s annual charity event, happened on 30th April, 2023. It has been a recurring tradition for the team, featuring figures from the team management, players, and supporters. Players happily participate in the cause and take some time off from their day to day lives to do so. Returning after three years, this year’s event was hosted at the prestigious Royal Calcutta Golf Club.
CEO of Knight Riders Group, Venky Mysore, said that he is thankful to the donors, support staff and the players for coming out and making the event a grand success. He reiterated that Meer Foundation and KKR remain committed to promoting sports amongst children in Kolkata and giving them an opportunity to showcase their potential.
A closer look at the cause
The KKR family believes that a great way to help rehabilitate trauma stricken children is through sports. It can help them build social skills and confidence, improve their communication and help them pick up values like team work, discipline, and most importantly, sportsmanship.
KKR and Meer Foundation will liaise with local NGOs in Kolkata working for rescued, vulnerable, and neglected children aged 6-18 years, who are in need of care and protection and are living in shelter homes. Female empowerment would have a special focus in the initiative.
