The Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai and Mr. Harry Hakuei Kosato, Founder Sushi and More, Kikkoman India Representative, and Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador initiated the launch of a series of events to promote Japanese Sanuki Udon Noodles on Friday, 13th January 2023 at a private dinner at the official residence of the Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai.
The purpose of this special event was to promote Sanuki Udon noodles from Kagawa Prefecture of Japan, which is known as the “Udon prefecture of Japan”. Besides rice, udon noodles are one of the Japanese staple foods. It is made of wheat, salt, and water, thereby making it purely vegetarian. Over 70% of Udon noodles in Japan are of the Sanuki variety, such is its popularity. This unique promotion was in collaboration with the brand Ishimaru Seimen, the largest producer of Sanuki Udon in Japan.
Sushi & More, an independent Japanese kitchen chain founded by Harry himself will be collaborating with Sanuki Noodle and shall be announcing a special Sanuki Udon menu Additionally, they will also be organizing a Retail sampling event at the popular gourmet store in Mumbai where the customers will be able to taste Sanuki Udon noodles.
In his welcome speech, Mr. Kaneko Toshihiro, Deputy Consul General of Japan in Mumbai said, “Ishimaru Foods & Noodles have succeeded in developing a market in the United States and served at a prestigious Japanese restaurant in Manhattan New York then also Japanese popular franchise Udon restaurants opened in London, UK, have become quite popular. Interestingly, the most favored Udon noodle menu among people of the world is Udon noodles with curry soup.”
Harry Kosato said, “We are eager to introduce India to various new dishes from the Japanese cuisine other than Sushi, and we are pleased to test market Sanuki Udon for the first time. We appreciate our Indian chefs heading Sushi and More, making delightful dishes which were accepted with open arms by both Indian culinary experts as well as the Japanese guests at the consulate dinner.”
The launch dinner was attended by Chefs, Restaurateurs, and F&B professionals who were treated to a 5-course menu. The first course was an “Udon Tasting course” which consisted of 4 unique styles: Udon, Traditional Japanese Style Udon, Nutty Fruit Udon, Shiro Miso Udon, and Chilli Garlic Udon. These Udon noodles were specially prepared by Sushi and More India. This first course was followed by assorted Tempura & fresh Sushi and ended with a special Japanese traditional dessert all prepared by the Chef IKEDA Masato of the Official Residence of the Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai.
All these events were supported by KIKKOMAN, Japan’s No. 1 Soy Sauce manufacturer, and All Nippon Airways (ANA), Mumbai branch.
