Meet Harakh Mehta, an inspiring fourth-generation diamantaire who established his eponymous brand HARAKH. Specializing in creating high jewellery marvels from only the finest materials, here’s PEAKLIFE in conversation with the entrepreneur on his journey, inspirations, and more.
A passionate jeweller deeply rooted to his culture and inspired by his ancestral background from the land of Gujarat and Rajasthan, Harakh Mehta goes beyond the usual standards of high jewellery; expertly crafted, featuring only rare and exceptional diamond sets.
Laying emphasis on his brand philosophy, “Luxury with a conscience”, each HARAKH diamond is sustainably sourced and graded according to its exact standard. Harakh also reigns as the official jeweller of le Bal, Paris since 2019.
In candid colloquy with Harakh Mehta, here’s a peek into the world of HARAKH, his vision, future plans, and more…
1. Harakh stands for joy. How is that essence translated in your jewellery?
All our collections are inspired by Moments of Joy, that I have personally experienced at different points in my life. Each collection has a story linked to a personal happy memory!
For instance, the Raindrop line is about the unforgettable experiences of getting drenched in the Mumbai rains. The magic of raindrops soaking the skin transformed into pear-shaped diamonds and rose cuts coming together in his high-end collection. Another one of my favorite stories is the vivid scene of the peacock dance, which is captured by the unique combination of baguettes, pear-shaped and brilliant-cut round diamonds modulated to mimic a handsome peacock strutting their feathers. The idea is to be subtle and let the wearer experience the emotion.
2. What would you say sets Harakh apart from luxury jewelers present today?
We have developed a system of metrics which we internally call the HARAKH standard. 99.99% of the world’s diamonds will fail to make the HARAKH standard! We go far beyond the 4 C’s of a diamond, as ultimately a HARAKH diamond has to speak to you from across the room! Apart from that we have several patented gold alloys that we use, as we have proprietary jewellery making techniques that we have either nurtured through our artisans or developed in-house. Each jewel goes through nine different stages of quality checks and is accompanied with a guarantee certificate. The end result is a true piece of art that the collector can wear and treasure!
Something completely unique to our brand is that each piece is accompanied by what we call a Reflection Card. This little document shares the creative journey behind the piece, through a spiritual lens. This is intended to give the jewel and the collector a deeper layer and dimension to the overall experience of spreading JOY through the ecosystem.
3. Could you take us through the creative process of what goes behind being the official jeweller for le Bal, Paris?
It was great to interact with the next generation of high jewellery consumers and understand their tastes and preferences. All the women by and large were very specific in their preferences. Each and every process requires an extreme level of detailing and precision. So, I had to really push myself and think out of the box, but finally was able to achieve my targets in time for the event. The biggest challenge was to deliver the precision and quality that are a hallmark of all Harakh pieces within a short span of time. Through meticulous planning and extreme discipline, all these challenges were overcome.
4. Harakh’s presence is online so far. Are you planning on physical retail anytime soon?
We are grateful for the tremendous response received online. Due to the current pandemic situation, we are looking at expanding our online offerings, but hopefully, we have something exciting in the retail space very soon!
5. What is the vision you envisage for Harakh for years down the line?
Spreading JOY is the guiding principle behind all our actions. We are extremely selective about having new additions to our existing collections but there are a few things in the pipeline. Along with that we will continue our commitment to showcasing excellent Indian craftsmanship. A vibrant e-commerce store is also launching soon!
6. A success mantra you live by?
Life is meant to be a celebration! We must proactively take time to celebrate each moment of happiness in our lives while maintaining our values.
7. Lastly, any advice for budding aspirants?
Listen to that inner voice. Believe completely in your goals and dreams and do not doubt yourself!
