How to sanitise your Jewellery with care from Covid 19

What’s the point of washing hands if the virus stays in your hand through your jewellery, here are few home techniques to keep your jewellery safe.

While we all are taking extract care while during this pandemic, washing our hands, but what about the jewellery we wear.

There are various studies that show that germs can live under rings for some amount of time, but there’s limited information on whether diseases can be transmitted this way. Well its still a risk, here are few ways one should clean their jewellery.

Archana Aggarwal, jewellery designer says, “As a thumb rule, I recommend using warm water and mild dish soap to clean and disinfect jewellery once every few weeks. However, with the threat of COVID 19, as an extra precaution, we can ramp up our cleaning regimen.”

Before you start cleaning, you should know your jewellery. It is important you understand the types of jewellery you’re wearing, whether a combined form or alone.

  • Please keep in mind that harder gemstones like Diamonds, Rubies and Sapphires that are set in solid gold or platinum can be disinfected with alcohol
  • Pearls and Opals should absolutely be kept away from using alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.
  • c) A clean, soft-bristled toothbrush is the perfect weapon for fighting dirty jewellery. Tiny bristles make it easy to access tough-to-reach nooks and crannies.
  • d) You can also try the UV sanitiser case, which is a great non-contact way to sanitise larger accessories or fragile pieces you do not want to be wiping and scrubbing.
  • e) You can use any of these methods to disinfect your jewellery pieces but most importantly do not be too harsh, “patience pays off.”
  • f) It is suggested you remove your accessories and wash be it ring, watches, bangles, bracelets.
