Fourth Edition of Kochi-Muziris Biennale begins

Kochi Biennale Foundation to hosts 108-day event that exhibits works of 94 artists in 10 venues of this heritage city.

The fourth edition of Kochi-Muziris Biennale got underway in Kochi on 12 December opening doors to a unique assemblage of contemporary art from across the globe. The 108-day event will exhibit works of 94 artists in 10 venues till 29th March 2019.

Kochi Biennale Foundation president Bose Krishnamachari and Biennale 2018 curator Anita Dube along with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan hoisted the flag for the month-long event at the main venue, marking the start of the festival.

Kochi Biennale Foundation is a non-profit charitable trust engaged in promoting art & culture and educational activities in India; primary amongst them the hosting of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, an art exhibition and festival that is the largest of its kind in South Asia. 

The Foundation works throughout the year to strengthen contemporary art infrastructure and to broaden public access to art across India through a diverse range of programmes.

This year the Muziris Biennale will take place in a range of venues centred around Fort Kochi-Mattancherry, with Durbar Hall in Ernakulam. The Biennale spaces are, for the most part, heritage properties that have been preserved, repurposed, and developed for the exhibition.

Apart from the exhibition, other programmes include talks, conferences, performances, educational interventions, workshops, and other forms of wide public engagement. Some of outlined are cinema artist, video labs to promote technology, art and medicine etc.
