Seasonal fruits and vegetables for detoxification
Cozy blankets, hot chocolates, scrumptious desserts, we have a lot to look forward to this winter, but fresh produce is usually not on that list. Consuming winter’s bounty of delicious fruits, vegetables, and legumes will rid the body of toxins, cleanse organs, and also will help in avoiding the damaging effects of food additives.
Well, here is the list of seasonal fruits and vegetables for the winter and how to include them in our diet for detoxification.
Oranges
Vitamin C rich, oranges are citrus fruits which contains compounds that have strong antioxidants and anti- cancer properties. Orange is rich in fibre and aids in liver cleansing and supports the overall health. You can include orange in your salad or opt for fresh juice without sugar.
Apples
Starting from vital vitamins, fibre and minerals, apple also contains anti-oxidants that protect the body cells from oxidative damage. Apart from fibre study reveals that’s apple contains phytochemical and pectin which helps in detoxification. The properties of Pectin helps in removing metals and food additives from the body. You can opt apples for your midday snacks and enjoy the benefits.
Carrots
Sourced with plentiful of pro-vitamin A, vitamin C, D, E, K, B1 and B6, carrot is a versatile vegetable. The amount of carotene present in carrots are more compared to any other vegetables and also contain high fibre. The raw carrots contains indigestible fibre that helps our body to perform natural detoxification. Carrot is one of the most healing foods that provides the finest and highest quality in nutrients, especially when consumed in its juice form.
Beets
Beets are root vegetable which is found throughout the year but in winter they are fresher. It contains number of nutrients and phytochemicals and essential potassium and magnesium. The high content of phytonutrients ‘betalains’ provides us antioxidants and anti-inflammatory protection. Beets also support good gallbladder and liver health and helps eliminate bodily waste. Beets can be included in salads, smoothies, soups and even make brownies and relish the high amount of fibres in it.
Radishes
Radish is power source of potassium, Vitamin C and fibre, with a pungent and juicy- sweet taste. It is known for the diuretic, cleansing and disinfectant properties which helps in kidney disorder treatments. With the presence of diuretic elements it helps in washing away the accumulated in the kidneys. Radish juice is a good option for detoxing along with the remaining fibres can be added in your diet daily. You can add radish in fresh salads or with curd.
Peas
High in protein and fibre, peas promote colon health and strengthen blood vessels. Pea is also said to have anti-inflammatory properties which is quiet helpful in winters. While split pea soup is the most common way to enjoy this nutritious vegetable, or simple plain vegetable. You can also add it to raw green salad for a burst of sweetness.
Mustard Leaves
Filled with nutrients like calcium, iron, sulphur and packed with antioxidants, Mustard greens are quiet popular among the Asians. The phytonutrients, glucosinolates present in mustard activates the detoxification enzymes in the body and regulates its activities. Mustard greens can be used in salads, green smoothies and soup mixed with other greens. Apart from detoxifying the body it acts as a cleansing agent, and helps in get rid of carbon dioxide from the body.
Spinach
Spinach is quit rich in iron and calcium when compared to any other green vegetables. The curative properties present in spinach is known since ages and also known as the ‘intestinal washer’. As the taste of the spinach is mild it taste great with smoothies and green salads. The warm soup of spinach is good for detoxification of the body.
