The ongoing women’s world cup has been creating a lot of buzz, from the foreseen victories to the unpredicted ones, here’s all you that need to know about FIFA Women’s World Cup.
After winning the bid on 19th March 2015, France has successfully been organizing the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup which is the eighth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, an international football championship contested by women’s national teams of the member associations of FIFA. A total of 24 teams have qualified. The 5 teams to qualify from the Asian Football Confederation are Australia, China, Japan, South Korea and Thailand. 3 teams which qualified from the Confederation of African Football are Cameroon, Nigeria and South Africa. 3 teams to qualify from the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football are Canada, Jamaica and United States. 3 teams from South American Football Confederation are Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The team which qualified from Oceania Football Confederation is New Zealand and the 9 teams to qualify from The Union of European Football Association are England, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Sweden.
These 24 teams are divided and allowed into four pots based on the FIFA Women’s world rankings which were released on 7th December 2018.
A total of of 27 referees and 47 assistant referees representing 42 countries have been selected to officiate the matches. The opening match was presided over by Claudia Umpierrez from Uruguay. Nine beautiful French cities selected for holding the matches are- Paris, Montpellier, Nice, Le Havre, Lyon, Reims, Valenciennes, Rennes, Grenoble.
The finals are awaited to be held on the 7th of July.
