Samsung has recently launched an Auto Blocker feature, a security tool for Samsung Galaxy users that offers enhanced device protection and customisation options. It’s part of One UI 6 and provides additional security features, including the ability to prevent unauthorised app installations, reducing the risk of social engineering attacks like voice phishing. Auto Blocker also introduces app security checks and USB cable protections, safeguarding against malware and harmful commands. An update to Message Guard adds protection against Zero Click attacks, or direct image messages hiding malicious code for third-party apps. This new security tool ensures a safer and more customizable mobile experience within the Galaxy ecosystem.

An Upgraded Face Unlock Technology in the Pixel 8

Google has upgraded the Face Unlock technology in the Pixel 8 for secure payment authorization and access to banking apps. While the 2019 Pixel 4 had 3D facial scanning, it was omitted from the Pixel 5. The Pixel 8 now achieves the same high level of security without additional hardware, making it suitable for authorising payments and signing into secure services using Face Unlock. This functionality is similar to Apple’s Face ID, ensuring a quick and secure access method for users. The Pixel 7’s Face Unlock only takes a 2D scan of a user’s face, which needs to be more secure for payment authorization.

UV Labels in iPhone15 Boxes

There are a lot of scams out there involving iPhones, and to combat these scams, the recently launched iPhone 15 has introduced a UV-based security mechanism. It will help to prove the authenticity of the device and help people not be scammed when buying an iPhone from an unknown store. The iPhone 15 packaging features labels and QR codes visible only under UV light, allowing buyers to verify authenticity and deter fraudulent sales of used or refurbished devices in counterfeit boxes. This measure provides assurance to customers and Apple, preventing the purchase of non-genuine or previously owned iPhones and safeguarding against potential scams.

OnePlus Prioritises Privacy With OxygenOS 14

OxygenOS 14 by OnePlus brings enhanced security features, including Device Security Engine 3.0 based on Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), to thwart malicious activities. The Security Centre is updated with a user-friendly interface for better management of device security and privacy. Strong Box chip-level security encryption ensures password protection at a fundamental data level. Auto Pixelate 2.0 conceals sensitive data in screenshots. Additionally, a new permission management option, “Ask every time,” enhances control over photo and video access, requiring app requests and user selection.

A New Generation for Xiaomi with HyperOS

At the recent launch event of the Xiaomi 14 series in China, Xiaomi introduced its cutting-edge operating system, HyperOS. One of the standout features is HyperMind AI, a powerful intelligence centre that makes devices intuitive and proactive. HyperMind learns and adapts to user preferences, simplifying smart automation without requiring users to delve into complex logic. Additionally, Xiaomi prioritises security with a dedicated hardware Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) and robust end-to-end encryption, ensuring user data protection and enhancing overall device security.
