Classic Golf & Country Club, India’s first designer golf course, recently announced the launch of the Classic Golf Premier League (CGPL). The inaugural edition of CGPL teed off on Friday, July 22nd, and was played over six weeks in a unique mix of Strokeplay and Matchplay rounds.
The inaugural event witnessed 12 teams compete in five classification rounds every Friday and Sunday, where the top eight teams then progressed to the knock out stage played on Fourball Better Ball Matchplay format. The league was an immersive experience of sports, food and entertainment and featured 120 league players from a diverse set of professions including industrialists, professionals, CXOs and among others.
Brandon de Souza, Tournament Director of CGPL, said, “Golf Leagues are the flavor of the season as India is on the cusp of a golf boom. Despite being an individual sport, golf team championships are the biggest draw for club golfers. We have seen all over the country including in Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bengaluru and Mumbai. The main objective is to achieve member interaction like never before while all the teams compete for bragging rights.”
The CGPL welcomed Grant Thornton as the Official Scorekeeper while ATUM was the e-mobility partner along with Tata Housing on as the co sponsor with Toro on board as the associate sponsor.
Said to be a private event, this was open to player families, members of the Classic Golf & Country Club, golf enthusiasts from NCR and more. The event was accessible by reaching out to them on their Instagram page (@classicgolfpremierleague).
