Celebrating Femininity: Blancpain Introduces The Female Fifty Fathoms Award Photography Prize

Celebrating the uncompromising femininity, Blancpain launches Female Fifty Fathoms awards in partnership with the Ocean Photography Awards.

In the recent updates, Blancpain in partnership with the Ocean Photography Awards is launching the Female Fifty Fathoms Award. Produced by Oceanographic Magazine, the new award category is introduced to encourage and reward women’s achievement in the field of ocean photography.

Observations say, despite the inclusive nature of Ocean Photography Awards the category is highly dominated by masculine participants. Therefore, through the new category of Female Fifty Fathoms Award, Blancpain aims to provide a platform for women to share and represent their perspective on the underwater ecosystems. This will also boost their involvement in the realms of diving, ocean photography and raising awareness of the ocean cause in order to inspire future generations.

For participation, the candidates have to be pre-nominated for the competition by a person for whom they represent a source of inspiration. After selection, the candidates need to confirm their participation and are required to follow the standard judging process of the Ocean Photography Awards. The winner will be awarded many prizes including a timepiece from Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms diving watch collection. After the great win, the winner will also enjoy the benefit of being present on the Brand’s platforms and in its communication, materials used to raise awareness of the beauty of the ocean. As a result, the winner will be in association with renowned photographers such as Ernest H. Brooks II or Ellen Cuylaerts. Both Brooks and Cuylaerts are contributors to Blanpain’s Edition Fifty Fathoms publications.

The Ocean Photography Awards, in support of the ocean conservation charity SeaLegacy, aims to convey the beauty of the ocean while also creating awareness about the danger the ocean ecosystem faces. Through photography, it aims to advocate the talent and sensitivity of the individuals involved in ocean photography. Therefore, the contest is open to all—amateurs and professionals, divers and surfers, young and old alike. It consists of six categories and the new category of the Female Fifty Fathoms Award has upgraded its inclusive agenda.
