Manufacture Breguet presents the 5557-Marine Hora Mundi, a contemporary reinterpretation of the iconic Hora Mundi model, within the brand’s emblematic, sporty yet suave Marine collection. This exquisitely detailed timepiece features brilliantly crafted dimensions and smooth surfaces depicting a map of the world. A perfect combination of technical expertise and tasteful craftsmanship, the new Marine Hora Mundi is a modern horological masterpiece.
A Legacy of Innovation
When it was first launched after three years of rigorous development, the Hora Mundi was a marvel of sophisticated mechanics, with four patents and a critical asset in the shape of an instant-change dual-time display. This unique feature allowed the wearer to travel across time zones through a single click of the pusher, which inspired innovation in future generations of luxury timepieces. The spirit of travel and adventure embodied by this watch resonates closely with Breguet’s legendary stature in watchmaking tradition, which can be traced back to the early 19th Century when the fleets of the greatest explorers sailed equipped with a Breguet timekeeping system.
The World at a Glance
The dial is decorated with a sleek play on materials and superimposed plates that takes the shape of the world map. The first gold base creates an impression of hand-guilloché waves gently lapping against the shores of the continents, and the sunburst dial base attired in abyssal blue generates a permanent waltz of the wave motifs. An additional plate made of sapphire is composed of the metallised meridians, while the continents are treated with horizontal satin brushing, and the coastlines are subtly outlined by a metallic turquoise border. An outer flange serves as a support for the various elements present on the dial.
Sharp Details for Perfect Legibility
To ensure that the ornamented dial does not hamper the functionality of reading time, each indication is endowed with a special aesthetic. The hours and minute hands as well as the hour markers are adorned with luminescent material, ensuring nocturnal legibility. The rose gold Sun and rhodium-plated Moon positioned at 4 o’clock are hand-hammered to create a vividly realistic result. Displayed through a 12 o’clock aperture, the date features an additional retrograde hand ingeniously placed beneath the aperture dial and featuring a delicately rounded “U-shaped” tip, which serves to encircle the date of each passing day. Brouillage—an ancient watchmaking decoration—has been updated and employed here to provide a subtle matte-yet-shiny finish, and to facilitate reading. The cities corresponding to the different time zones are indicated at 6 o’clock. A metallised anchor appearing above the window indicates the place whose current time you wish to consult.
A Unique and Precise Movement
The 43.9 mm-diameter case, available in a choice of white or rose gold, houses Calibre 77F1, the balance of which oscillates at a frequency of 4 Hz. This mechanical self-winding movement is resistant to corrosion, wear, and the effects of magnetic fields. Calibre 77F1 features patented additional modules for the dual time-zone mechanism, the second time-zone display, the programmable and reprogrammable mechanical memory wheel and the pointer-type day/night display. This exceptional mechanism supports a 55-hour power reserve, and is partially visible through the sapphire caseback, which is elegantly accentuated with Côtes de Genève, guilloché and snailed finishing. The new Marine Hora Mundi is available with either a leather strap, a rubber strap or a gold bracelet.
