Blockbusters Delayed Due to Coronavirus

As the coronoavirus pandemic spreads across continents, it becomes even more imperative to call off gatherings of large people and close movie theatres and festivals.

HOLLYWOOD RELEASES

NO TIME TO DIE

007’s latest flick would not be released until November as the spread of coronavirus has led to closures of theaters in major markets such as Italy, South Korea, China and Japan. The film was to be released on April 2 internationally and in the US on April 10. This comes as a huge blow as the film costs more than $200 million and could have produced a substantial amount of money by being one of the biggest blockbusters of 2020.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 7

Following the cancellation of multiple major premieres in China, Universal pushing back No Time To Die last week, festivals such as SXSW being cancelled and general box office concerns, the filming of Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible 7 has also been affected by COVID-19 as well.

Ethan Hunt’s next mission was expected to kick off filming in Venice, Italy for three weeks as part of the first leg of an extensive shoot for Mission: Impossible 7. But considering there were 150 cases confirmed in the country, the shoot has since been delayed.

FAST AND FURIOUS 9

The release of Fast And Furious 9 has once again been pushed back. The film, which was earlier set to hit the theatres on April 10, 2020, will now open the movie was set to hit theaters May 22 but now has a new release date – April 2, 2021 – when the 10th “Fast and Furious” was already set to be released.

BLACK WIDOW

Warner Bros. on Tuesday delayed the summer release of “Wonder Woman 1984” and removed the adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights” from its schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic. With much of Hollywood’s spring release calendar already vacated due to the virus, major summer movies are also increasingly reshuffling. “Wonder Woman 1984,” the sequel to 2017’s “Wonder Woman,” will now hit theaters on Aug. 14 instead of June 5.

In response to the global pandemic of coronavirus, Walt Disney Studios has postponed the release date for “Black Widow,” the Marvel tentpole starring Scarlett Johansson that was originally slated for an international rollout beginning April 29, followed by opening in the United States on May 1. Disney has not announced a new date for the Marvel production, directed by Cate Shortland.

WONDER WOMAN 1984

DC’s Wonder Woman movie has been pushed back due to health concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus. Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince will now be hitting screens on Aug. 14, as Wonder Woman 1984 becomes the latest movie to be delayed. The movie was originally scheduled for release on June 5, after being pushed back from Dec. 2019 to avoid competing with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The postponement follows the closure of many movie theaters nationwide, and the lockdown of several cities.

83

The release date of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone-starrer 83 has been postponed due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. 83 was set to hit theatres on April 10. The makers, however, have decided to shift the film’s release date after the novel coronavirus spread in the country. Coming to 83, the film is based on India’s historic 1983 World Cup win. Ranveer is playing the role of Kapil Dev in the film and Deepika is playing his wife Romi Bhatia.

SOORYAVASHI

Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer Sooryavanshi has been postponed due to Coronavirus outbreak. The makers recently released an official statement saying that the film will hit the theatres when the time is right. Karan Johar, who is producing the film, wrote, “We’ll see you back at the movies when the time is right. Stay safe everyone.”

Salman Khan, Disha Patani starrer which is slated to release on Eid is likely to shift as cinema halls in New Zealand, Australia and Fiji would be shut till 23rd May and this shutdown might have an adverse effect on the Indian films.

BHOOL BHULAIYA

Film stars Karthik Aryan and Kiara Advani had recently arrived in Lucknow to shoot their next film, Bhool Bhulaiya 2. The shooting of his film was for a month long. He started shooting for the film on March 10, but now it seems that he will be back before the shooting is over.

Karan Johar’s Takht is one of the much-awaited Bollywood releases of the next year. The period drama which is a multi-starrer star Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar and Jahnvi Kapoor in important roles. The movie which was scheduled to hit the screens at the beginning of 2020 has now been pushed towards the end of the next year.
