Huawei has been banned from receiving Google’s services

Trump’s take on China is highlighted in the recent addition of Huawei in to the list of companies who would stop receiving US communication networks. The Trump administration has added Huawei to its entity list and the consequence is that Huawei won’t be able to access technology from US firms without government approval & license.

Huawei is a Chinese multinational technology company that sells consumer electronics like smartphones. Founded in 1987, the network reaches one third of the world’s population. In 2018, it overtook Apple in 2018 as the second-largest manufacturer of smartphones in the world. Due to cybersecurity allegation, primarily through United States government which has built up to this ban.

The US tech firm is suspending all business activity with Huawei related to non-public transfers of hardware, software & technical services. However, Huawei doesn’t lose all access to Android as the core operating system can be used as an open source project. It would continue to provide security updates & after-sales service to all existing Huawei & Honor smartphone users. They will be able to update apps & push through security fixes. But, when Google will launch next version of Android, it may not be available to Huawei devices. In future, new phones will not be Google certified and won’t have Google Mobile Services (GMS) pre-installed. GMS includes all Play stores’ apps like Google Photos, YouTube, Google Maps, Duo video calls and other media. Furthermore, losing access to GMS means third party developers also won’t be able to access Google’s application programming interfaces (APIs) on new devices.

Google’s action comes after the U.S. Commerce Department granted a 90-day license, which expires on August 19, for ensuring Huawei consumers to have certain access.
