A. Lange & Söhne has recently introduced a limited edition Saxonia Annual Calendar in white gold with a grey dial.
Since its debut in 2010, the clearly designed Saxonia Annual Calendar has set a benchmark in the calendar watch category. Designed exclusively for the US market, it now comes in a white-gold edition with a grey dial, limited to only 25 pieces and differing from regular pieces in two tiny but significant details.
Engineering ingenuity is at the heart of the Saxonia watch family, whose name is synonymous with the great Saxon watchmaking tradition. One of the best examples of this is the Saxonia Annual Calendar. In addition to the time, it indicates the date, month, day of the week and moon phase. A sophisticated mechanism ensures that the different month durations are correctly displayed from March to January. The date must only be advanced once a year when February transitions into March. The exceptionally accurate moon phase display only needs to be corrected by one day every 122.6 years.
The legendary self-winding Sax-0-Mat calibre features Lange’s patented Zero-Reset function: when the crown is pulled, the movement stops and the second-hand jumps to the zero position, making it easy to accurately set the time. Ample power is delivered by the bi-directionally winding rotor in 21-carat gold. Its centrifugal mass, made of platinum, adds extra inertia. In this limited edition, the rotor parts around the embossed A. Lange &Söhne logo are plated in black rhodium. To bring back the golden appearance, a circular graining has been added on top – this has never been done to any Lange rotor before.
The sleek grey dial of the Saxonia Annual Calendar delivers its information in a clear and well-organized manner. The color harmonizes perfectly with the 38.5-millimetre white-gold case and the shiny blue alligator strap. Lange’s attention to detail extends even to the font inside the date window: for the first time in a SAXONIA timepiece, the outsize date is realized with white numerals on a grey background, perfectly matching the color of the dial.
A glance through the sapphire-crystal case back reveals the magnificently finished movement. All parts are individually decorated and polished by hand. The classic screw balance oscillates beneath the hand-engraved balance cock to make each watch a unique piece of art. The exclusive US edition is only available at A. Lange &Söhne boutiques in New York, Miami, and Costa Mesa.
