A jewel in the marine world

The Marine Tourbillon, part of Ulysse Nardin’s Marine Collection is a sure-fire product of precision and accuracy.

As the marine world has been an integral part of Ulysse Nardin’s history since 1846, the brand has launched its new timepiece, the Marine Tourbillon as homage to its rich marine legacy. In one magnificent timekeeping instrument, the Marine Tourbillon unites the three fundamentals so essential to Ulysse Nardin’s identity: in-house production, technical avant-garde and rare artistry.

Produced in-house at Le Locle, Switzerland, the self-winding UN-128 caliber used in this high-precision timepiece is entirely new. Highlighting the brand’s development and continued independence in the movements manufacturing, it harnesses the properties of Silicium technology, while boasting a 60-hour power reserve and a magnificent flying tourbillon. As a flying tourbillon is among the most complex mechanisms in the world of Haute Horlogerie, to counteract the negative effects of gravity on the accuracy of a movement, the cage, wheels, screws and hairspring of the flying tourbillon are also given the same attention to detail, by being produced entirely in-house.

The Marine Tourbillon, possessing as it does several of the design characteristics of those heritage marine timekeepers, melds together functionality with enduring style. At its heart lies a Grand Feu white enamel dial, made by Ulysse Nardin’s in-house enamel specialists Donzé Cadrans. Complementing the time-less elegance of the Grand Feu dial, are the elegant hands and roman numerals that instantly mark the timepiece as belonging to the Marine Collection. They indicate hours and minutes, while the indicator at 12 o’clock shows time remaining on the 60-hour power reserve.

Taking the ideals of sophistication and practicality in its stride, this self-winding, leather strapped timepiece is housed in a 43 mm stainless steel case with slanted edges. The crown, designed for easy handling, is complete with a rubber notch for comfortable winding and is water resistant up to 100 m.

This watch is certainly capable of being as exquisite in its form and function as in its looks, and will no doubt catch the eye of those looking for a timepiece which has a vivid legacy attached to its name, and delivers on its ideals of being a ‘mariner’s trusted companion’.
