The record-breaking supercar marks another epoch for track enthusiasts in the country.
After making a dazzling debut at the 2017 Geneva motor show, the Lamborghini Huracán Performante has been launched in India, combining new lightweight technologies, active aerodynamics with aero vectoring and a new set-up of chassis, all-wheel-drive system and further improved powertrain. The Huracán Performante set a new production car lap record of 6:52.01 min on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, beating the previous record by nearly 5 seconds.
The Performante stands apart by being the most powerful Huracán in Lamborghini’s range. It is powered by a 5.2-litre V10 developing 640hp, which is 30hp more from the standard Huracán AWD coupe and 600Nm of torque, also up by 40Nm. The engine is mated to a reworked seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox paired with a Haldex permanent four-wheel-drive system. The car is fitted with specifically designed bronze 20-inch Narvi alloy wheels wrapped in custom-designed Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. It can sprint to 100kph from rest in 2.9sec, 0.3sec faster than the regular Huracán with a top speed of over 325kph.
Based on a hybrid aluminium and carbon fibre frame, the Huracán Performante’s body is produced from aluminium in conjunction with significant use throughout of Lamborghini’s award-winning Forged Composite, making it 40kg lighter than the standard supercar. Use of the new material is focused on active aerodynamic elements such as the flaps on the rear wing and inside the front spoiler, part of the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA).
The rear wing features an inner air channel, which splits to the left and the right to allow aero vectoring for high-speed cornering. At the front of the car, flaps inside the spoiler close when the active aerodynamic system is off and then open when it is on, in order to reduce drag for optimum acceleration and top speed.
Reflecting the pure lines and performance of Lamborghini Super Trofeo race cars, the design also takes inspiration, particularly at the rear, from naked performance motorcycles, with their exposed frames and ‘streetfighter’ structures expressing function and performance. The car is also available in a new matt orange body colour (Arancio Anthaeus).
The Huracán Performante has been launched at an exuberant price of Rs. 3.97 crore (All-India ex-showroom).
