5 Tiger Sanctuaries in India

Here are some places around the India that have saved guarded the endangered species of tigers and also offer a unique wildlife experience, that is rich and abundant in flora and fauna.

Sunderbans Tiger Reserve, West Bengal

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and a famous biosphere in India, it is home to the Royal Bengal Tigers also known as the human eaters. It was a water-logged jungle, in which tigers and other wild beasts abounded. Attempts at reclamation had not been very successful. The Sundarbans was everywhere intersected by river channels and creeks, some of which afforded water communication throughout the Bengal region both for steamers and for native ships. Also, The Sunderbans are a home saltwater crocodile, Ganges River dolphin, hawksbill turtle, mangrove horseshoe crab and olive ridley turtle.

 

Corbett Tiger Reserve, Uttrakhand

One of the oldest National Parks in India, Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve was made to protect the endangered Royal Bengal Tiger.  With the sub-Himalayan belt geographical and ecological characteristics this eco-tourism destination contains 488 different species of plants and a diverse variety of fauna. Although, there are plentiful of Bengal Tigers, are not easily spotted due to the abundance of foliage – camouflage – in the reserve. During summer one can see the herds of elephants here, along with other animals like barking deer, sambar deer, hog deer, chital, sloth and Himalayan black bears.

Kanha Tiger Reserve

Without any doubt, Kanha Tiger Reserve is one of the best and exclusive places in the world to experience the majestic royal Bengal tigers. It is considered as one of the best-managed parks in Asia and also a part of Project Tiger. But the area is not only limited to them but is also homeland to leopards, wild dogs and Barasingha as well. With over 350 species of birds and Flora, this is a place you would not want to miss.

Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra

One of the famous tiger reserve in the Sahyadri Ranges of the Western Ghats of Maharashtra created by the Indian government in 2008 is a great initiative in saving the endangered species of the world. The variety of tiger species available over here makes it wanderlust area for every adventure enthusiast.

 Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan

One of the best places in India to see these animals is in their natural jungle habitat, and Ranthambore is probably top the list. This is among the most sought after safari sightings in the India. The Park terrain alternates between dry deciduous forests and open grassy meadow. The flora of the park includes 539 species of flowering plants. Ranthambore is best known for its large tiger population. As park tourism and the population of neighbouring villages increased, there were more frequent fatal human-tiger interactions and poaching.

Bandipur National Park, Karnataka

This national park in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, also famous for its small population of tigers is a ‘must-not-miss’ wildlife experience for you. Along with many other endangered and vulnerable species like Indian elephants, gaurs, sloth bears, muggers and much more for your checklist. This park is complete filler for your thirst for thrill and adventure.
