With a long weekend sneaking up on us, and the occasion of Holi calling for some festive indulgence, we suggest three quick getaways a short drive away from the capital city, to lap up the last languorous breezes of spring before summer graces us in in all its glory!
Rishikesh
The roaring rapids, lush greenery, and tranquil mountains of Rishikesh create the perfect backdrop for a trip full of adventure, relaxation, and excitement. Amp up the adrenaline with water sports, or opt for a yoga retreat and spiritual excursions to famed pilgrimage sites. Enjoy piping hot food at the charming local restaurants and bakeries, hike through the pristine trekking trails, or simply soak your feet in chilly water along the river banks—the city has something to offer for every traveller. Rishikesh is at a distance of five hours from Delhi, by road.
Lansdowne
Reconnect with nature in this quaint town, where old-world charm abounds amidst hilly landscapes, and the sweater weather offers a welcome break from the rising heat of the city. The colonial-era architecture and panoramic ridges make Lansdowne the perfect Himalayan retreat. Pepper your days with fun and undemanding activities by heading out for long nature walks through Oak and Pine-laden forests, going boating at the lake, or spotting local fauna at the Kalagarh Tiger Reserve. Reaching Lansdowne from Delhi by road takes seven hours.
Jaipur
A favourite among residents of the capital, Jaipur never fails to impress with its lovely accommodations, vibrant culture, and pleasant climate. The forts, palaces, and stunning heritage structures are reminders of a glorious past, while the delectable cuisine and shopping spots provide much-needed recreation. To reach Jaipur, it is best to set out early in the morning, and cover the distance through a quick five-and-a-half-hour road trip from Delhi.
