Holi is one of my favorite festivals. I love the colors, the spirit, and the festivities. To keep the festival healthy and chemical-free, I always buy only organic colors. But there is always someone or the other who brings in the chemical colors and color sprays that are a torture for the skin and hair. To save us from the stress of constantly worrying about the aftereffects on our skin and hair, we have worked on a guide to skincare rituals that we can do from ingredients easily available in your kitchens. Read on, and prep yourself for a stress-free holi, and keep that smooth and glowing skin rocking even after Holi celebration is done. But first, the trick to washing off the tons of color you’ve played with.

  1. Lukewarm water is the best for washing it all off

Lukewarm water @PeakLife

Right after you’re done with playing Holi, the first thing that you need to do is to wash your face with lukewarm or normal tap water. This will help to remove the color stains and will be gentle on the skin as well. Hot water will also help deep clean your skin pores, and then use a gentle facewash and cleanse your skin properly.

  1. Bring in some lemon to work its magic!

Not many people know this but lemon is known to be a natural bleaching agent. Yes, it is very useful for getting rid of color stains after holi. Lemon contains citric acid which is a perfect component for lightening Holi colours. Mix lemon juice with equal amount of honey, and apply it all over your face and body. Leave it for 15 minutes and then apply plenty of moisturizer after that.

  1. Pamper yourself with some homemade packs

Home made Face Pack

There are always some magic ingredients in your kitchen. You can make a highly-effective pack with curd, besan or gram flour, turmeric, olive oil and lemon juice.  All of these lightens the visibility of the dark shades of Holi colors, and helps the skin to get back to its original complexion and glow quickly. Apply this pack on your body every alternate day post-Holi, to get faster results.

  1. Use the coconut oil cover

This is a sure-shot way to ensure that the worst of colors are removed easily – apply loads of coconut oil before stepping out to play holi. Also, after playing with colours, you can pamper your skin by massaging it with a little coconut oil, and then wipe it off with a wet wipe, and then use a mild face wash to wash your face.

  1. Natural hair care routine

In case you are having trouble in removing colours from your hair, take one tablespoon of lemon juice and mix it in a cup of curd. Apply this mixture on your scalp and rinse it. Another way to say goodbye to the colour which has made its way into your hair is to massage egg yolk onto your scalp for at least 30 minutes.

These are all easy-to-do-at-home remedies that will not only help you get rid of the colour, but will also protect your skin and hair from the negative effects of chemicals and other harmful substances that are often used to make Holi colors.

Happy Holi!!
